Description

The College Success Advisor is responsible for providing comprehensive, student-centered advising and support to current students throughout their academic journey. This role serves as a primary point of contact for students, assisting with registration, academic planning, financial aid and billing questions, and connecting students to appropriate campus resources. The College Success Advisor focuses on supporting student success, retention, and goal attainment, helping students persist toward graduation, transfer, or career placement. This position works collaboratively with the Advising Coordinator and campus partners to ensure a seamless and supportive student experience.

Job Duties

  • Demonstrates IWCCâ??s core mission, vision and values
  • Maintain an active advising caseload of current students
  • Assist students with course registration and schedule planning aligned with their academic goals
  • Guide students in developing academic plans that support timely progression and completion
  • Advise students on program options, changes, and degree requirements
  • Support students with understanding billing, financial aid, and related processes
  • Assist students in exploring career pathways, transfer options, and post-graduation goals
  • Provide holistic, student-centered support addressing a wide range of student needs and concerns
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for students, offering guidance and problem-solving support
  • Connect students with appropriate campus resources and services when needs fall outside advising scope
  • Monitor student progress and proactively engage students who may need additional support
  • Track and manage advising interactions and student progress using student information systems or CRM tools
  • Collaborate with the Advising Coordinator and campus partners to support student success initiatives
  • Partner with campus departments, including campus visits and student onboarding, to ensure a seamless student experience
  • Participate in retention-focused initiatives and outreach campaigns to support persistence and completion
  • Serve as a team player by supporting departmental needs and assisting in cross-functional efforts as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Associateâ??s degree required; Bachelorâ??s degree preferred in communications, business, education, or a related field
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively support and guide students
  • Demonstrated customer service skills with a commitment to providing a positive, supportive, and student-centered experience
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and student needs simultaneously
  • Ability to build rapport and establish trusting relationships with a diverse student population
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to assist students in navigating complex situations
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing as part of a collaborative, team-oriented environment
  • Positive attitude, professionalism, and a genuine interest in helping students succeed
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism
  • Basic understanding of or willingness to learn academic advising practices, degree planning, and student support services
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn financial aid, billing, and registration processes
  • Experience with student information systems, CRM platforms, or similar technology preferred
  • Ability to adapt in a fast-paced, student-facing environment
  • Commitment to a holistic, student-centered approach focused on student success, retention, and completion
  • Ability to pass a background check

Physical Demands

  • The employee frequently is required to sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, telephone and basic office equipment
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear
  • Ability to lift up to 10lbs
